Allergy and Immunology Clinic

At the UCSF Allergy and Immunology Clinic, we evaluate and treat patients with allergies and allergic conditions of all kinds, as well as patients with immune deficiencies that lead to infections and inflammation.

Our specialists are board-certified members of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI) who have completed specialty training in internal medicine or pediatrics and at least two years of ABAI-accredited training in evaluating and managing patients with allergic or immunology conditions.

Allergic conditions we treat:

  • Anaphylaxis
  • Asthma
  • Drug allergies
  • Eosinophilic disorders
  • Eczema (atopic dermatitis)
  • Food allergies
  • Hay fever (allergic rhinitis)
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Immune deficiency
  • Nasal polyps
  • Pink eye (conjunctivitis)
  • Stinging insect allergy (bees, hornets, yellowjackets, wasps)
  • Swelling (angioedema)

Comprehensive allergy tests and treatments we provide:

  • Allergy shots (allergen immunotherapy)
  • Biologic injections for asthma and hives
  • Drug allergy testing for immediate reactions to antibiotics, aspirin or NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like ibuprofen, chemotherapy, contrast used for CT or MRI imaging, corticosteroids, general anesthesia used during surgery, local anesthetics like lidocaine
  • Drug desensitization for antibiotics, biologics and chemotherapy
  • Environmental allergy testing (pollens, molds, dust mites, cockroach, animal dander)
  • Food allergy testing for immediate reactions to foods
  • Penicillin allergy testing

Note: Following guidance from national allergy societies, our clinic does not recommend or offer IgG food sensitivity testing. Find out more.

Treatment for infections and inflammation

Our immunology specialists care for patients with primary immune deficiencies, which can lead to frequent infections or inflammation. Immune deficiencies can also develop in people who take medications that suppress the immune system, such as rituximab or ocrelizumab.

Immune deficiencies are not the only cause of frequent infections and inflammation, however. To make sure patients are seen by the right specialists for evaluation of their condition, we require screening lab work.
